This is the story of Ella whose journey involves being admitted to HDU at their local hospital in Taunton, then having a few days on PICU in Bristol before returning to their local hospital. Ella’s Mum has shared their family’s experience below.
Background
Our 4 week old daughter Ella had breathing problems and was diagnosed with Covid bronchiolitis in Taunton Musgrove Park Hospital. Ella needed to be ventilated to help her breath so we were transported to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children to the Seahorse Intensive Care Unit.

What really matters to you about your experience?
The transport team was absolutely amazing, very compassionate about caring for Ella and very empathetic to myself as her mother.
On PICU the following were important to us . . . . .

What went well?
The family appreciated that Bristol managed to have a PICU bed for them, as initially the plan was to go to Cardiff. Being ‘closer to home’ and in a hospital that they knew meant a lot to their family.
I would just like to say a massive thank you to the transport team for looking after our daughter and thanks to everyone who helped care for her in such a beautiful way.
